Czechia has below-EU-average prices: 1.86 €/l petrol 95 and 1.92 €/l diesel. Major: Benzina (ORLEN Unipetrol), MOL, OMV, Shell. Cheapest: Tesco, Globus, Makro. Substantially cheaper than Germany, modestly cheaper than Austria (see comparison table).

Current fuel prices
Czech fuel prices sit below the EU average: substantially cheaper than Germany (routinely well over 30 cents per litre), modestly cheaper than Austria (petrol nearly identical, diesel gap larger). See the neighbour comparison table on this page for current cents-per-litre. The Prague-Brno-Ostrava corridor on the D1 has standard prices; D5 (toward Germany) and D2 (toward Austria) often run slightly cheaper to attract border-crossing customers. Brand network: Benzina (ORLEN Unipetrol, ~330 stations, market leader), MOL (~250), OMV (~220), Shell (~210). Hypermarket-attached stations Tesco, Globus and Makro consistently undercut brand prices by 0.50-1.50 CZK per litre (2-6 cents).
The Czech market is transparent: the CZSO publishes weekly retail averages and the EU Oil Bulletin reports the national mean each Monday. Benzina, Shell and MOL apps offer member pricing. Holtankoljak-equivalent consumer apps for Czechia include Pumpa.cz.
| Fuel | EUR/l | CZK/l approx | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|

| 98 | above petrol 95 | n/a | Premium, the surcharge varies by brand |
| Diesel | 1.92 €/l | ~46.86 CZK/l | Standard road diesel |
| LPG (Autogas) | 0.93 €/l | ~22.62 CZK/l | LPG / Autogas |
| AdBlue | well below diesel | n/a | At most diesel stations; a canister costs several times the pump price |
Czechia vs neighbouring countries
Czech R. compared to neighbouring countries (current national averages):
| Fuel | Czech R. | Germany | Poland | Austria |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Diesel | 1.92 €/l | 2.24 €/l | 1.79 €/l | 2.08 €/l |
| Petrol 95 | 1.86 €/l | 2.09 €/l | 1.57 €/l | 1.78 €/l |
Refuelling strategy for visitors
The single best move in Czechia is to refuel at a Tesco, Globus or Makro hypermarket station instead of brand Benzina, MOL or OMV. Highway service areas on the D1, D5 and D8 carry a 1-2 CZK surcharge. Crossing to Germany: fill in Czechia before the border, saving substantially (well over 30 cents per litre on most days). Crossing to Austria: modest savings on diesel, negligible on petrol. See the comparison table for current cents-per-litre. Toward Poland or Slovakia: small savings, refuel based on convenience.
Costs for common routes
For a passenger car at 6 l/100 km. Fuel volume is pure arithmetic and does not go stale; multiply by the current Czech diesel price (see the averages table above) for the current euro cost.
| Route | Distance | Fuel |
|---|---|---|
| Prague - Brno (D1) | 200 km | 12 l |
| Prague - Ostrava (D1) | 360 km | 22 l |
| Brno - Bratislava (D2) | 130 km | 8 l |
| German border (Rozvadov) - Prague (D5) | 175 km | 11 l |
| Austrian border (Mikulov) - Brno (D2) | 50 km | 3 l |
Payment methods
Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and American Express are accepted at every brand station. Contactless payment without PIN is standard (limits vary by country). Apple Pay and Google Pay accepted. Fuel cards: DKV, UTA, Routex, Shell Card and major brand cards all accepted at brand stations.
LPG and AdBlue
LPG / Autogas
Czechia has a moderate LPG network (~700 stations) concentrated around Prague, Brno and Ostrava. Major brand stations and select Benzina sites stock autogas. Typical 40-50 percent cheaper per km than petrol after factoring 30 percent higher consumption.
AdBlue
Available at virtually every modern diesel station. Bulk pumps for trucks common at motorway service areas. A modern Euro 6 car uses AdBlue at roughly 3-5 percent of its diesel consumption, so a tank of 8-33 litres lasts about 5,000-15,000 km (ADAC). A larger container, or a workshop refilling from bulk, costs less per litre than a small bottle. AdBlue prices are neither regulated nor published anywhere in Europe, so check the price before you buy.
Practical tips
- Find cheapest with the right tool: Pumpa.cz or Benzina app.
- Avoid motorway service areas: 5-15 cent surcharge versus town stations.
- Carry a backup card: rare pre-authorisation failures at unmanned stations.
- Border tactics matter: see border section in the strategy.
- Use brand apps: member pricing typically 2-5 cents per litre below pump.
