Denmark has upper-EU fuel prices: 2.66 €/l petrol 95 and 2.50 €/l diesel. Major: Circle K, OK, Q8, Shell, Uno-X. Cheapest: OK automated and supermarket-attached. Cross-border: Germany 10-15 cents cheaper.

Current fuel prices
Danish fuel prices sit at the upper end of the European market, driven by high excise + CO2 taxes. The corridor between Copenhagen, Odense, Aarhus and Aalborg carries standard prices; remote Jutland often runs 5-10 cents higher due to logistics. Brand network is mature: Circle K (Norwegian), OK (Danish member cooperative), Q8 (Kuwaiti), Shell, Uno-X. OK consistently offers the lowest prices via its automated network and member discount; supermarket-attached stations and Bilka hypermarket stations also undercut brand prices.
Denmark does not have a public mandatory live-price portal. Drivkraft Danmark publishes industry weekly averages, and the EU Oil Bulletin reports national means each Monday. OK and Circle K apps offer member pricing typically 5-10 oere below pump.
| Fuel | EUR/l | DKK/l approx | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol 95 (E10) | 2.66 €/l | ~19.87 DKK/l | Standard road petrol |
| 98 | above petrol 95 | n/a | Premium, the surcharge varies by brand |
| Diesel | 2.50 €/l | ~18.70 DKK/l | Standard road diesel |
| LPG (Autogas) | no national average | n/a | Very limited network, see the LPG section below |
| AdBlue | well below diesel | n/a | At most diesel stations; a canister costs several times the pump price |
Denmark vs neighbouring countries
Denmark compared to neighbouring countries (current national averages):
| Fuel | Denmark | Germany | Sweden |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diesel | 2.50 €/l | 2.24 €/l | 2.05 €/l |
| Petrol 95 | 2.66 €/l | 2.09 €/l | 1.69 €/l |
Refuelling strategy for visitors
The single best move in Denmark is to refuel at an OK automated station with member discount, or at a Bilka/Foetex supermarket station, instead of a brand Q8 or Circle K. Highway service areas on the E20 and E45 carry a 10-20 oere surcharge. Crossing to Germany: refuel south of Padborg for petrol savings (German petrol meaningfully cheaper than Danish), but note German diesel is slightly more expensive than Danish so wait until Denmark for diesel. Crossing to Norway via ferry: refuel in Norway, meaningfully cheaper than Denmark on both fuels in 2026.
Costs for common routes
For a passenger car at 6 l/100 km. Multiply the litres by the diesel price in the table at the top of this page, which refreshes automatically:
| Route | Distance | Fuel |
|---|---|---|
| Copenhagen - Aarhus (E20/E45) | 305 km | 18 l |
| Copenhagen - Odense (E20) | 165 km | 10 l |
| Aarhus - Aalborg (E45) | 115 km | 7 l |
| German border (Padborg) - Copenhagen (E45/E20) | 345 km | 21 l |
| Swedish border (Oresund) - Copenhagen (E20) | 20 km | 1 l |
Payment methods
Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and American Express are accepted at every brand station. Contactless payment without PIN is standard (limits vary by country). Apple Pay and Google Pay accepted. Fuel cards: DKV, UTA, Routex, Shell Card and major brand cards all accepted at brand stations.
LPG and AdBlue
LPG / Autogas
Denmark has a very limited LPG network. Plan diesel or petrol instead for tourist travel.
AdBlue
Available at virtually every modern diesel station. Bulk pumps for trucks common at motorway service areas. A modern Euro 6 car uses AdBlue at roughly 3-5 percent of its diesel consumption, so a tank of 8-33 litres lasts about 5,000-15,000 km (ADAC). A larger container, or a workshop refilling from bulk, costs less per litre than a small bottle. AdBlue prices are neither regulated nor published anywhere in Europe, so check the price before you buy.
Practical tips
- Find cheapest with the right tool: OK and Q8 apps with member discounts.
- Avoid motorway service areas: 5-15 cent surcharge versus town stations.
- Carry a backup card: rare pre-authorisation failures at unmanned stations.
- Border tactics matter: see border section in the strategy.
- Use brand apps: member pricing typically 2-5 cents per litre below pump.
